The problem
Colour replacement is easy to fake badly. The paint has to keep its reflections, its highlights and the way light rolls across the panels, or the whole car reads as a flat sticker.
What I did
- 01
Tracked and rotoscoped the car through the shot.
- 02
Rebuilt the paint so reflections and falloff move with the body rather than sitting on top of it.
- 03
Held the grade and grain of the original plate, so the change disappears as an effect.
What it produced
- Self-initiated, made to test whether the colour holds up on a moving hand-held plate.
